WhatsApp is refreshing its mobile applications with a new, sleeker design and introducing a “darker dark mode,” the company revealed on Thursday. Over time, WhatsApp has prioritized adding features, but as the app grows, its design also needs to be updated.
The app is adopting a new color scheme after evaluating more than 35 different shades, with a focus on deeper colors to minimize eye strain in dim environments. The app’s dark mode, favored by many, has been made a notch darker to enhance message readability.
For Android users, WhatsApp is integrating a native bottom navigation bar to facilitate quicker access to various sections. This feature, already available on iOS, organizes chats, updates, communities, and calls for easy navigation.
iOS users will benefit from a revamped attachment layout that simplifies sending photos and videos. Instead of a full-screen menu, an expandable tray will now display, making it clearer to view and select options for sending media, polls, documents, and more.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is updating its icons to a rounded, outlined design and refreshing the default chat backgrounds.
