Microsoft is expanding its AI and cloud infrastructure investments in Spain by $2.1 billion over the next two years, company President Brad Smith announced on Monday.
- In a post on X (Twitter), Smith said the investment goes beyond just building data centers and is “a testament to our 37-year commitment to Spain, its security, and development and digital transformation of its government, businesses, and people.”
- Spanish President Pedro Sánchez posted an image of himself meeting with Smith, and he thanked Smith for his trust in the Spanish economy and in the country’s “roadmap for an inclusive and secure digital transformation.” Sánchez added, “Public-private collaboration is essential to successfully face the challenges of digital transformation.”
- The move by Microsoft comes just after the Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant announced that it will invest $3.44 billion in Germany in the next two years, mostly in artificial intelligence — the company’s biggest investment in that country.
