Will Joe Biden secure reelection in November? Clearly, it’s impossible to predict at this juncture. However, if the president does indeed win another term, a notable segment of the American population will attribute the victory to a singular cause: a clandestine government conspiracy implicating none other than Taylor Swift.
A recent survey conducted by Monmouth University and released on Wednesday reveals that a concerning proportion of Americans—18% to be exact—subscribe to the notion of “a covert government effort involving Taylor Swift to assist Joe Biden in winning the presidential election.” Eighteen percent! While it’s true that 73% of respondents do not believe in the existence of this clandestine effort (with 9% responding “don’t know”), the fact that 18% do is considerably higher than what one would expect in a rational society. This poll underscores the unsettling reality that our society may not be as rational as we’d hope.
“The purported conspiracy theory involving Taylor Swift’s involvement in swaying the election holds traction among a significant number of Trump supporters. Even individuals who were previously unaware of this theory found it credible upon being polled. Welcome to the 2024 election,” remarked Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, on Wednesday.
On that note, in case you were curious:

Fully 71% of those who believe this identify with or lean toward the Republican Party, and 83% indicate they are likely to support Donald Trump in the fall. Also, nearly three quarters (73%) of those who believe the Swift conspiracy also believe the 2020 election outcome was fraudulent.
Outlandish conspiracy theories linking Swift to the 2024 election gained traction earlier this year, with a Fox News host boldly stating, “Approximately four years ago, there were discussions within the Pentagon’s psychological operations unit about leveraging Taylor Swift as an asset during a NATO gathering.” In the lead-up to the Super Bowl, conservative figures on the right alleged that, as part of this purported government scheme, the game would be manipulated in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. Showing little concern for exacerbating the proliferation of absurdities, the Biden campaign shared this post on Sunday night following the Chiefs’ victory:
