Microsoft recently announced its introduction of the first AI-integrated Surface PCs for the corporate sector, namely the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. These devices are equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors and Neural Processing Units, enabling them to support sophisticated artificial intelligence applications and enhance user experiences.
Scheduled for release in April, these innovations were revealed during a virtual event on Thursday morning, marking Microsoft’s latest step in embedding its Copilot AI tools across business operations. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s ongoing rivalry with other major players in the enterprise technology arena, such as Google, Salesforce, Amazon, and more.
The event also highlighted the continued incorporation of AI capabilities into various Microsoft software products that businesses frequently use, including Windows, Teams, OneNote, among others.
A notable addition to Microsoft’s new Surface models is the previously announced dedicated Copilot hardware key. The starting price for these devices is set at approximately $1,200.
Furthermore, Microsoft plans to offer its Microsoft Adaptive Accessories for corporate use.
This launch comes at a crucial time as Microsoft aims to rejuvenate its Surface line following a downturn in sales. The revenue for Microsoft’s device segment decreased to $2.4 billion in the six-month period ending December 31, 2023, down from $2.9 billion during the same timeframe a year earlier, as per a company filing.
Panos Panay, who previously led Microsoft’s Windows & Devices sector, departed to join Amazon’s Devices & Services team last year.
In a recent development, Microsoft appointed Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind and a former Vice President of AI at Google, to head the newly established Microsoft AI division, focusing on consumer AI products and research.
