A key theme in Trump’s discourse was whether undocumented migrants brought into the country under Biden’s policies would be allowed to remain or be expelled. He emphasized a tough stance on immigration, contrasting it with Biden’s approach.
While Biden has sought to position himself as tough on immigration, endorsing a bipartisan border bill touted as the most robust and equitable reform in decades, Trump vigorously campaigned against it, rallying Republicans to oppose the legislation.
Both candidates visited the border recently, with Biden accusing Trump of politicizing the issue while Trump met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and portrayed migrants as a threat. However, many border officials, including some who served under Trump, have stated that most migrants are vulnerable families fleeing poverty and violence.
In response to Trump’s speeches, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, Ammar Moussa, accused Trump of deflecting attention from his own actions, stating, “Once again Trump is projecting in an attempt to distract the American people from the fact he killed the fairest and toughest border security bill in decades because he believed it would help his campaign. Sad.”
